E. E. Crager with jeeps lined up to be destroyed.  He said they would take magnesium flares and sit them on top of the jeep's engine block, The flare would burn through the engine making it inoperable. He said originally, the flares were to be used to destroy equipment in case the enemy took the island back. The jeeps were then dumped into the sea. I asked why, if you were going to dump them into the sea, did you use the flares?  He said they had to get rid of the flares and besides, it was fun.
